Beginning Tarot: An Introduction to Reading the CardsHave you ever been curious about tarot but weren't sure where to begin?
Whether you've always been drawn to the cards or you've just started wondering what they're all about, this class is a welcoming place to begin. Tarot is both an ancient symbolic language and a practical tool for insight. While it can be used for prognostication, it is equally valuable as a way to reflect, gain clarity, and explore the questions that matter most.
This introductory class is led by Ronit LeMon Deneen, co-founder of Sun + Moon Dream Alchemists with her husband, Matt. Ronit has been reading tarot since she was sixteen years old and has spent decades integrating symbolism, intuition, and personal growth into her work. She offers private and group tarot readings, reads regularly at the Collinsville Farmers Market, and has taught tarot to students seeking a grounded, accessible approach to the cards.
Ronit is an ICF Master Certified Coach (MCC), a Certified Holotropic Breathwork Facilitator, and holds master's degrees in Literature and the Teaching of Writing. Her approach invites curiosity over certainty, helping people discover their own relationship with tarot rather than simply memorizing card meanings.
In this two-hour introductory class, participants will explore:
The history and purpose of tarot
The structure of the deck, including the Major and Minor Arcana
How to begin reading the cards with confidence
The balance between traditional card meanings and personal intuition
How tarot can be used for reflection, personal growth, and guidance
Practice reading the cards in a supportive environment, with plenty of time for questions
Please bring a Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck or a deck based on that system. If you don't already have one, Ronit will have a limited number of decks available for purchase at her cost.
No experience is necessary. This class is designed for complete beginners as well as those who have owned a deck for years but never quite knew how to begin.
Tarot asks only for curiosity, attention, and a willingness to listen. By the end of the class, participants will have a solid foundation for working with their own deck and continuing their tarot journey with confidence.
