Meet the Team


Mike Trevail,  Adventure Education Coordinator
Feeling the pull of the great outdoors, Mike Trevail chose adventure education as his career. He has more than a decade of experience working at summer camps, outdoor education centers and various nonprofit organizations across the United States.
Mike has been working for the past 11 years at Winding Trails, and as of October 2023, he became the new Adventure Education Coordinator! Mike coordinates the Experiential Education programs and runs students and adults through the paces on the Challenge Course where they learn how to build trust and work together.  
He studied Recreational Management at Colorado Mountain College and received training as an EMT. Mike has completed an ACCT Level II Challenge Course Practitioner Certification and currently holds an ACCT Challenge Course Manager Certification.  
Mike brings a variety of team-building and high ropes experience to Winding Trails, challenging others to think outside of the box. He can't wait to meet you and get you out adventuring.

Lisa Cheney,  Corporate Trainer 
Growing up in rural New England, Lisa developed a deep appreciation for the great outdoors at an early age. While working as a corporate trainer for GE Capital, she discovered outdoor adventure education and fell in love with the way the model facilitates the building of healthy communities.
Since then, she has spent over 30 years working on challenge courses throughout New England as a team-skills trainer teaching people from all walks of life. She served as a challenge course manager at the Pine Lake Adventure Park in Bristol, CT and is excited about now serving in her role as the Corporate Trainer at Winding Trails.
Lisa has been a Waterburian for over 20 years where she lives with her husband, son, and "Miss Millie Burgers her rescued cat.

Brendan Loveland,  Lead Facilitator
Brendan B Love Loveland first developed a love for adventure education as a teenager, participating in challenge courses at various summer camps. He became an avid rock climber and began to recognize the ways in which his rock-climbing community reflected the strong teams that he had been a part of in his adventure education experiences. Seeking to combine the technical skills developed as a climber with the educational approach of these formative experiences, in 2012 he began working as an Adventure Educator serving the East Hartford Public School system. Since then, he has worked as a Challenge Course Facilitator at various courses throughout New England, as well as apprenticing as a Challenge Course Inspector/Builder in Florida during the winter. Since 2022, he has regularly served Winding Trails as a Lead Challenge Course Facilitator.
B Love brings an infectious energy to the teams he works with, fostering an environment where participants are motivated to explore the areas outside their comfort zones, allowing them to maximize the value derived from their experiences.

Sue Crumbaker, Lead Facilitator 
Sue works with a wide variety of schools and organizations design programs that achieve their learning objectives. Lovingly known as Super Sue to tens of thousands of participants, she's a master facilitator with 25 years of experience in challenge course design, operations, and administration. A former teacher, she specializes in behavior modification and teambuilding and is certified by Project Adventure and High 5 Adventure Learning Center.

Bob Marsh,  Lead Facilitator 
Bob Marsh MS LMFT has been the Youth Coordinator for the Town of Farmington since 1991 and has over 23 years of clinical experience working with teens and families.  He has facilitated many parent support groups, served on the Juvenile Review Board and currently oversees Farmington's 2 indoor challenge courses.  Bob is a graduate of University of Hartford with a BA in Psychology and Central Connecticut State University with a MS in Counseling. 
His current interests include marriage and family therapy, mentoring, therapeutic adventure and developing new leadership programs.  Bob also enjoys golf and playing trumpet in 3 area bands.

Jim Gavin,  Facilitator
Jim Gavin is a lifelong teacher who enjoys helping people improve their interpersonal and communication skills. Recently Jim became an experiential educator, helping teams understand group dynamics and improve their problem-solving methods. Before working on the challenge course at Winding Trails, Jim spent 30 years teaching grades seven through twelve at a Connecticut regional public school where he also coached the boys' and girls' cross-country team. He started his career teaching kindergarten through twelve graders at a private school in St. Croix, US Virgin Islands and has capped off his career by becoming an adventure educator.
Jim attended the University of Connecticut and received his B.S. in 1980. He went on to receive his M.S, in 1991 from Central Connecticut State University and he was awarded his certification in Adventure Education from Northwestern Community College in 1997.

Willa Ridinger,  Facilitator 
Willa is a seasoned educator working for the past decade as an experiential facilitator on area challenge courses. She previously taught middle school for 25 years and was a long-time youth sports coach. Willa enjoys helping groups reach their full potential by teaching team building skills and helping teams foster good communication by providing an understanding of interactive group dynamics.
She was a lawyer in her previous career and served on numerous boards and organizations. She loves an active lifestyle, the great outdoors, and currently enjoys working as a group exercise instructor.

Ian Jackson,  Facilitator 
Ian is an executive coach and consultant who works with clients to build an inclusive workplace of authentic communication and community. For more than a decade he delivered in-person, online, and hybrid programs to Harvard's Division of Continuing Education's worldwide population of students and staff. Ian has also worked for a number of challenge course organizations in the Northeast, facilitating programs for leadership teams, administrators, and teachers along with middle school, high school and college students.
Ian has an M.E. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and an M.S. in Psychology from the University of Glascow in Scotland. He has spent 25+ years creating and facilitating programs in team building, diversity, inclusion & belonging.
Ian and his wife Angel have 3 children, a dog, cat and 10 chickens. For fun, Ian walks 1,000+ miles a year.

Don Brooks,  Facilitator 
Don Brooks is a former college athletic, sports fan, and outdoor enthusiast. A 20-year veteran of Outdoor Learning & Adventure, Don began as an Orientation Leader at Siena College. As a Master's student at Springfield College, Don spent two years working at the school's 57-acre East Campus Outdoor Learning Center. Don has led diverse groups of preschool through college age students, corporate groups, social service and nonprofit agencies and other community groups in team building, managerial training, and goal-oriented growth.
In addition to Outdoor Adventure, Don works full-time for ESPN as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility team, incorporating experiential learning. Don joined the Winding Trails team in 2007. He has 3 kids and 2 dogs who all enjoy the outdoors.

Bill Powers, Facilitator 
Bill is a life-long educator. He has been a classroom teacher, advisor, and coach working to inform and inspire K-12 students at various schools in the Northeast, as well as    internationally. Bill also served in various administrative roles working with Boards, school leaders, families, and staff members as Assistant Head at Hopkins School (New Haven, CT) and Head of The Country School (Madison, CT),to fulfill the institution's Mission. More recently, Bill has been the Senior Advisor and Lead Facilitator for Mountain Workshop working on program planning and staff training, as well as leading student, faculty, and business programing offering unique leadership training, team building, professional development, and reflection opportunities through experiential education and outdoor adventure activities. And all the while, having a great time and learning a whole lot himself.
