Natural Resources

Winding Trails is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to preservation and stewardship of our 380 acres of natural woodlands and waterways. As you enter the property you are immediately welcomed by the beautiful pristine 80 acre Dunning Lake. This is arguable our number one resource and where the majority of our friends spend their summer swimming, fishing, boating, and picnicking. As you make your way further into the property you will come to the camp area with sports fields, pavilions, and buildings. From here you must exit your car and get on foot or bike and truly begin to explore the rustic beauty of the area with its 12.5 miles of trails, Walton Pond, wildlife, and Natures Porch.

There has been a lot of research and publications completed recently devoted to the importance of children and adults connecting with the natural world. Winding Trails provides the perfect backdrop to unplug and refuel. Sharing time in the outdoors with family and friends is a healthy activity for mind, body, and soul.

Dunning Lake is our largest, most popular natural resource. We have carefully and thoughtfully designed a 10-year master plan to alleviate some congestion and solve some long standing issues at our beautiful beach. Natures Porch is our environmental center located on the shores of Walton Pond. It was completed in 2013 and is built with lumber harvested off the property during the Halloween Storm of 2011. This handsome post and beam building with its large inviting wrap around porch exemplifies Winding Trails dedication to educating children and families, the environment, and fostering a love for the outdoors.

The building has educational exhibits, multiple hands on activities, books, and inventories of all the various wildlife that can be found on the property. There are also exhibits to view and helpful staff to answer any questions you may have. It is used extensively by our summer camp program throughout the weekdays in the summer and open for our members evenings and weekends. Hours vary depending on the time of year.
